Do you want to be part of a dynamic team creating high quality learning experiences for adult learners across the city? We are looking for tutors who have worked successfully with hard-to-reach learners in community settings. You will be someone who is not afraid of challenge, can work flexibly according to the needs of the service and has a real passion for teaching and learning. You will be working city wide on an outreach basis to deliver targeted courses in the community. A typical day might include travelling to a school, children’s centre, or community centre to set up for a class of local people that want to learn new skills. You will help learners by presenting, modelling worked examples, setting high quality learning tasks and reviewing learner progress with them. You will liaise with and be supported by development workers, learning support and team leaders according to what specialist needs are required. You will need to be digitally literate and able to embed digital skills in lessons and use online platforms and systems to share key documentation.

The function of our team is to provide courses for vulnerable adults with few or no formal qualifications and/or those facing multiple barriers in life. Our learners can include those with mental and physical health challenges, communities including refugees with English as a second language, individuals in addiction recovery, and others with complex needs. We help build confidence whilst developing skills and knowledge so our learners can progress towards further education and work. We have high aspirations for those we work with, providing courses specifically designed to meet their needs. In May this year we were once again graded as “Good” overall by Ofsted including an Outstanding for “Behaviour and Attitudes.” Community Learning’s main base is at The Park Centre in South Bristol, but most of our classes take place in a range of community venues, across the city.

We work mainly during term-time, following Bristol schools’ term dates, with some summer provision. We work within the OFSTED framework and apply high quality standards to our provision. We support tutors with training and coaching to meet these standards.

We are looking for qualified tutors to join our team in a range of subject areas, these include the following:

  • ESOL- accredited and non-accredited at all levels - experience at working with asylum-seekers, refugees, non/pre-literate and ‘new to learning’ leaners an advantage.
  • Maths, from family learning and short courses to accredited functional skills up to level 2.
  • Generalist tutors who can work across a range of skill subject areas, e.g., employability and personal development.
