Job Requirements/Description

Hours: Part time, Term time hours 25 hours per week (Flexible working hours)

The Cancer Clinical Advisory Groups (CAGs) consist of healthcare professionals from all disciplines who specialise in different cancer types and treatments and include patient representatives. The groups meet to discuss and promote good practice in cancer services across the Somerset, Wiltshire, Avon and Gloucestershire (SWAG) region. A service to support these groups and their activities was established in Summer 2014. The service is hosted by University Hospitals Bristol and Weston but is funded jointly by the six local hospitals and the Cancer Alliance and acts on behalf of the CAGs.

Main duties of the job

The Administrative Coordinator post is an interesting and exciting role, developed to enhance the service we can offer to these groups in their work to improve the quality and coordination of cancer care in the region. This provides an opportunity for the post holder to witness how highly skilled clinical staff work together to share their expertise while seeking solutions that benefit their patients.

Applicants for the post must be able to concentrate for prolonged periods during meetings whilst interpreting complex information, be motivated to produce high quality documentation and have excellent communication skills. Previous NHS experience of working with cancer and health data would be ideal. Applicants must have a good knowledge of cancer services and current issues within the NHS. We are looking for individuals who combine a high level of organisational skills with the ability to work with and understand complex data.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.

Desirable criteria

  • Microsoft Office user qualification e.g. CLAIT, ECDL or similar.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of working in a secretarial, administrative or data analysis role in a large organisation.
  • Experience of organising large meetings with attendees from different organisations.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working in the NHS.
  • Experience of coordinating and collecting complex information and working with large datasets.
  • Understanding and experience of the computer systems used in clinical settings.

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Excellent organisational skills, both of own time and of events.
  • Excellent written English with good spelling, punctuation, grammar and presentational skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Ability to manage a varied workload and meet deadlines, in an environment where work priorities may change rapidly.
  • Knowledge of current issues in the NHS, particularly those relevant to cancer services.

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Fast typing speed.
