Salary: £50,000 - £65,000 (DOE)

Location: Bristol (Relocation package may be available for this role)

Working Arrangement: Dynamic (hybrid) working, with 4-5 days per week on-site due to workload classification

This role is embedded within the cutting-edge Sparkworks team, focusing on novel and disruptive technologies that will shape the future of missile design.

The Opportunity

As a Mechanical Design Engineer – Future Concepts, you will play a crucial role in a multidisciplinary team, working on projects at the forefront of defence technology. Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading Mechanical Development: Spearhead the mechanical development of assigned projects, sub-systems, or components, providing vital expertise to the team.
• Shaping Early-Stage Projects: Engage in the initial stages of project development, where your input will directly influence the direction and rapid prototyping of designs.
• Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with experts in various fields, including Structural Design and Low Observability, to create comprehensive solutions.
• Innovating for the Future: Propose and develop ideas for future research topics, securing funding to bring these concepts to life.

What We’re Looking For

We seek candidates with a strong foundation in mechanical design, who are excited by the prospect of working on the next generation of defence technology. The ideal candidate will possess:

• Mechanical Design Expertise: Solid understanding of mechanical design principles, particularly in packaging electronics with thermal considerations.
• Conceptual Design Skills: Ability to develop innovative concept design solutions with limited information and evolving requirements.
• Interdisciplinary Awareness: Familiarity with related fields such as Structural Design and Low Observability is a plus.
• Communication and Influence: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate, influence, and negotiate across various teams.
• CAD/CAE Proficiency: Experience with 3D CAD/CAE tools (training on preferred CAE tools will be provided).

Note: Candidates will be required to attain DV (Developed Vetting) level of clearance to fulfil this role.
