Principal Aerodynamics Engineer - Bristol, BS34 7QS

£50,000 - £55,000 DOE (+Bonus)

Onsite Requirement: 3-4 Days per Week


The Opportunity: Join Europe’s leading Integrated Defence Company as a Principal Aerodynamics Engineer, where you’ll leverage advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools and performance analysis to shape the future of missile airframe design. The Role: As a Principal Aerodynamics Engineer, you will be at the forefront of missile design, ensuring that our systems are at the cutting edge of technology. You will:

  • Lead and Deliver: Work alongside Aerodynamics team leads, Technical Experts, and Project Management to ensure project milestones are met on time, within budget, and to the highest standards. Your role will be key in integrating aerodynamic solutions across various projects.
  • Advanced Analysis: Conduct detailed aerodynamic studies using CFD and other analytical tools to support and enhance missile airframe design.
  • Wind Tunnel Testing & Flight Trials: Take the lead on wind tunnel testing and contribute to flight trials, ensuring that critical aerodynamic data is accurately captured and applied to meet design and performance standards.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with teams from System Design, Mechanical Design, Simulation, and Guidance to develop high-performance missile systems.
  • Mentorship: Play a pivotal role in mentoring junior engineers, supporting their professional development, and assisting with the recruitment of top talent.
  • External Partnerships: Collaborate with key external stakeholders, including the Ministry of Defence (MOD), aerospace companies, and academic institutions, to drive forward aerodynamic research and development.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Must be a British citizen or a dual UK national with British citizenship.
  • Extensive knowledge of Aerodynamics and Performance, with substantial experience in the aerodynamic design and analysis of missile systems or other high-performance applications.
  • Proven ability to lead task packages, consistently delivering results on time, within budget, and to high-quality standards.
  • Experience in managing complex projects and coordinating activities across multiple teams.
  • A passion for mentoring and developing junior engineers, with a commitment to shaping the future capabilities of the Aerodynamics team.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and influencing skills, with a proven ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams and with external partners.


What We Offer:

  • Salary: Competitive base salary up to £60,000, depending on experience.
  • Bonus: Annual bonus of approximately £2,500.
  • Overtime: Optional paid overtime at a flat rate of 1.25x.
