GSE Design Engineer

Location: Filton, Bristol/Hybrid 3 days onsite 2 days at home
Salary: Up to £50k + Benefits
Hours: 37 hours per week
Contract: Full Time, Permanent

GSE Design Engineer - The Role:

The GSE Design Engineer, creates mechanical designs in response to the group of demands and customer requirements. The design activity is done using CATIA V5, but other tools can also be used. In summary, the GSE Design Engineer, Local Focal point must:

Main goals of the function:

• Perform design activities requested by the internal departments and the customer.
• Create 3D CAD Mechanical Designs of Ground Support Equipment (GSE).
• Create 2D drawings of 3D CAD designs (manufacturing drawings).
• Generate the associated technical documentation (Bill of Materials (BOM), Technical Specifications, User Guides Certification Documents).
• Project manage in-country activity as part of a transnational project management organisation. This includes proposals, schedules and budgets.
• Resolve technical requests from internal and external stakeholders.

Your duties will involve:

• Do concept designs of tools (or other products) based on technical specifications or the information available at the time.
• Provide oversight and guidance to the transnational design team to create CAD design of detailed parts and large assemblies.
• Propose new design modifications to existing tools.
• Know and understand the ISO tolerance system.
• Know and understand the applicable norms for the job, with special emphasis on CE standards and safety factors.
• Reverse engineer existing products and/ or drawings.
• Identify and track key characteristics and critical items of a design.
• Support the manufacturing team with issues during manufacturing.
• Validate detailed design drawings respecting the international and customer specific standards and specifications.
• Cross check existing designs done internally or by a third party.
• Support the Project Managers in quoting.
• Support other related activities i.e.: The Query Project Leader (QPL) with technical queries related to design topics.
• It is beneficial to know VBA CATIA and C# programming language or similar.
• It is beneficial to know CAD design for additive manufacturing.
• It is beneficial to know other engineering fields like:
- Electrical Design (Schematic and PCB)
- Hydraulic and pneumatic design
- ATEX

Quality:

The GSE Design Engineer will be subject to quality audits that will be managed by the Transnational Quality Manager (TQM).

The GSE Design Engineer will:

• Follow the applicable design procedures and contribute in improving them.
• Be aware of KPIs of their activity.
• Participate in the elaboration or improvement of training material if needed.
• Fulfil the applicable checklists and/or check existing ones.

GSE Design Engineer The right candidate will have the following experience:

• Minimum of degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 5 years experience in related field.
• Demonstrable experience in Aeronautical Engineering.
• Knowledge of CATIA V5 desirable.
• Knowledge of Ground Support Equipment (GSE), Jigs and Tools desirable.
