Client:

Our client, a global leader in Defence specialises in the design, manufacturing, and support of advanced surface ships, submarines, torpedoes, radars, and command and combat systems. Their services also include ship repair, maintenance, and upgrades, along with supplying naval gun systems. Additionally, they offer commercial shipbuilding services.


Role:

As a member of the Electrical Equipment Team, you will play a key role in specifying and tendering equipment for the Electrical Power System. You will manage the technical aspects of contracts, guiding them through staged design reviews to completion. This role involves close collaboration with external suppliers to ensure the highest engineering standards are met, contributing to the development of the Royal Navy's next-generation submarines.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Drafting technical specifications and assisting in contract selection and placement.
  • Collaborating with external suppliers and customers to ensure alignment on project goals.
  • Managing the design lifecycle to guarantee equipment meets required specifications.
  • Providing expert technical guidance to multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, and stakeholders on power system-related matters.
  • Preparing and presenting technical reports, calculations, and recommendations.


Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience as a power systems engineer.
  • Expertise in high power, medium voltage power electronics, machines, and drives.
  • Strong understanding of power systems, including conversion, distribution, and generation.
  • Experience working in an engineering role compliant with industry codes and standards.
  • Experience in managing complex design programs.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
