Light Trace was founded in 2021 – we have sold our first products and are rapidly expanding our team.


About the Role:


As an Integrated Photonics Engineer at Light Trace, you will play a pivotal role in the development and delivery of advanced PIC components. You’ll work closely with our team of experts to design, test, and validate components that enable our customers to bring their products to market faster. Your work will directly contribute to accelerating innovation in the integrated photonics space, making a tangible impact on the future of the technology.


Core Responsibilities:


  • Design and simulation of PIC components (passives and actives) across multiple platforms;
  • Laying out chip designs ready for fabrication and testing;
  • Building and maintaining lab functionality for PIC testing;
  • Characterising PICs in the lab;
  • Collecting, analysing, and presenting PIC component data;
  • Collaborating with our software engineer to aid the development of our PIC service;
  • Supporting management in customer engagements and aligned PIC consultancy work; and
  • Aiding management in the invention of novel PIC components.


Core Skills & Abilities:


  • At least 3 years of experience in the simulation, design, and characterisation of integrated photonic components (PhD or industry experience);
  • At least 3 years experience programming in Python 3.0 and modelling integrated photonics using Ansys Lumerical or similar (PhD or industry experience);
  • A basic understanding of quantum photonics and electronic engineering;
  • Experience submitting chip designs to commercial foundries; 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and
  • A willingness to take on new challenges and responsibilities.


Nice to Haves:


  • Experience designing and/or characterising active PIC devices;
  • Experience with RF electronic engineering;
  • Experience developing photonic chip products within the industry; and
  • Experience in PIC fabrication and packaging.
