About The Role

The National Composites Centre is the centre for innovation in composite materials. We work with a wide range of inspiring partners to help support the future of composites in industry, making the ideas of tomorrow a tangible reality.

As a Ceramics and Composites Engineer you’ll be a vital member of our Advanced Materials team, who are leading the UK’s mission to bring composites to extreme applications such as nuclear fusion, sustainable aviation and hypersonic flight. You’ll deliver projects and regularly interact with customers from the UK’s leading engineering companies.

So, what are we looking for?

We are seeking talented and motivated individuals to join our research team at various levels of seniority. Depending on your experience and qualifications, you could join us as a Research Engineer, Advanced Research Engineer, or Principal Research Engineer. In these roles, you will be integral to driving innovation and excellence within our business. We are specifically looking for:

  • Ceramics - You have experience working with ceramic materials and have knowledge of their properties, benefits and limitations.
  • Composites - You have an understand of the materials theory and practice of composite materials, can understand the challenges faced in novel applications, and have a passion for delivering new technology
  • Industrial focus - You've put your knowledge to the test in an industrial setting, or have working in research and development in an industrial environment. You have proven experience in a practical setting, solving real-world problems with real-world solutions
  • Novel sectors - Ideally you'll have knowledge and experience of working within a relevant sector where materials have to withstand harsh environments (radiation degradation, high temperatures, space environment), forcing engineers to think outside the box in terms of materials selection. Space, Nuclear, Aerospace, Defence etc.
  • Security Restrictions: British Citizen eligible for DV clearance. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to successfully undergo DV clearance.
