Would you like to work in an exciting new mental health role in primary care?

New MINT mental health hubs set up in communities across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire are changing the way we support people struggling with their mental health.

MINT hubs are at the forefront of a new and exciting system of integrated mental health support set up across England by the NHS. MINT stands for Mental health and wellbeing Integrated Network Teams. Second Step is proud to be at the forefront of these innovative mental health changes and keen to recruit talented individuals to fill these important posts.

We’re currently looking to recruit 1.5 new recovery navigator roles to be that vital first contact for clients concerned about their mental health and wellbeing.

You’ll be joining our MINT teams of skilled mental health professionals and working alongside colleagues from AWP, social care, GPs and voluntary care staff.

About the role

The recovery navigator role involves:

  • Building trusting and collaborative relationships with clients - demonstrating hope and courage – to help maximise their independence; providing advocacy when needed.
  • Completing individual assessments via initial support conversations to inform clients’ recovery plan and direction of support.
  • Supporting clients to use self-management tools such as a Wellness Recovery Action Plan.
  • Being trained to use a range of skilled interventions and approaches, such as motivational interviewing, active listening and solution-focused support.
  • Helping clients navigate the system to find the support they need via voluntary sector organisations or referrals to statutory services like drug and alcohol support.

About you

This role is a great fit for you if you are:

  • Passionate about supporting people to improve their mental health.
  • Experienced in supporting people with mental health needs including experience of carrying out client support plans and risk assessments.
  • Understand the importance of taking a holistic view and using a recovery and trauma-informed approach.
  • Excited about working as part of a busy, dynamic team working with skilled professionals, drawing on their knowledge where possible.
  • A good communicator and confident in working independently in the local community.
  • Able to travel around the area to support clients when needed.

What we offer

  • To be part of a friendly team with regular one-to-one support and group reflective practice.
  • Excellent training and opportunities for development.
  • 26 days annual leave plus eight bank holidays (pro rata for part-time working). An additional day’s holiday is granted to all staff after one full year of service, subject to a maximum of five working days.
  • A 6% contribution of gross basic salary into a pension scheme if you contribute at least 3% of gross basic salary.
