You will support the overall delivery of demand reduction targets through review of success and in year optimisation of strategies covering the South West Water, Bristol Water, Bournemouth Water and Isles of Scilly regions. You will receive a competitive salary of circa £47,000 to £52,000 plus an excellent benefits package.

The Role

The Demand Team is responsible for the creation and continual review of the strategy for delivering the demand reductions set out in the Environment Act (including leakage, and HH and NHH per capita consumption) and targets approved by the business.

In this role, you will manage day-to-day monitoring, reporting, and forecasting of AMP Demand Activities, and drive efforts to achieve overall demand targets by identifying and recommending necessary adaptations. You will contribute to future investment decisions by compiling evidence and reviewing performance of demand-related initiatives, working closely with the Modelling Data and Systems team to establish robust monitoring methods for water consumption data analysis.

You will play a key role in assessing the performance of investment options and demand initiatives, reporting to the SDBI taskforce and suggesting adjustments to meet demand targets effectively.

To succeed, you must have a deep understanding of Water Resources and demand management, ensuring data integrity and reliability. Strong stakeholder management skills are essential for building relationships, fostering collaboration, and aligning efforts towards common goals. Effective communication across diverse groups is crucial for explaining complex information clearly.

Your attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and project management abilities will ensure accuracy and efficiency in day-to-day demand monitoring, reporting, and forecasting. You will own performance reporting for key metrics like DI, PCC, and NHH demand, conducting trend analysis and providing insightful commentary based on MDS team data.

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead day-to-day monitoring, analysis, and forecasting of AMP demand activities, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements, and implement robust monitoring systems with the MDS team to track initiative benefits and demand changes.
  • Identify, assess, and recommend adaptations to current activities and plans to achieve overall demand targets, engaging internal and external stakeholders for approval and implementation, and conducting regular audits to verify data consistency and completeness.
  • Compile evidence and review performance of each initiative to inform future investment options, and prepare and present detailed reports on water consumption and demand trends, highlighting the impact of demand reduction initiatives.
  • Present findings to stakeholders, including management, regulatory agencies, and community groups, using written reports, presentations, and visualizations, and maintain accurate documentation of monitoring activities, data collection procedures, and analysis methodologies.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and reporting obligations, including submission of required reports to regulatory agencies, and provide oversight and guidance to staff involved in data collection, analysis, and reporting activities.
  • Play an active role in the Smart Metering and SDBI delivery teams, working with colleagues to achieve program outcomes, participate in research initiatives and professional development activities, and develop budgets and cost plans for specific demand strategy initiatives, ensuring cost-effective resource allocation.

What we are looking for:

  • Scientific/ Environmental/ Engineering related Degree and ideally hold professional membership of a recognised body (e.g. CIWEM).
  • Experience in water resources management, hydrology, water demand monitoring, analysis, and reporting, with a background in statistical analysis techniques, time series analysis, and forecasting methodologies.
  • Proven project management skills, including delivering through others, with previous experience working in a water company.
  • Strong understanding of water resource management practices, hydrological principles, and relevant regulations, with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Effective in cross-functional teams, capable of coordinating and overseeing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring adherence to timelines and budget constraints.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail, capable of prioritizing work, managing multiple projects, and maintaining robust document management and decision trails.
  • Excellent communicator, both oral and written, with the ability to develop strong external relationships.
