Job Requirements/Description

Are you a qualified engineer? Do you have knowledge of hazards studies? Are you familiar with the implementation of Nuclear Safety Requirements? Are you looking to develop your expertise and build experience in the exciting and challenging environment of new nuclear build?

If so, join us as a Hazards Engineer and you’ll join one of the most exciting and ambitious projects within EDF, as we continue to lead the rebirth of nuclear in the UK.

The Opportunity...

EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is a subsidiary of Edvance, which is a joint venture between EDF and Framatome, established in 2018 in charge of the design and the realisation of nuclear islands for new projects in France and worldwide.

In particular, EPR-E is responsible for the design and construction of the nuclear island for Hinkley Point C (HPC) project and preparing the design replication and engineering activities for the Sizewell C (SZC) Project.

At HPC we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.

As a Hazards Engineer, you’ll conduct studies on internal and external hazards (such as extreme cold, internal explosions, pipe ruptures, and earthquakes) affecting buildings within the Nuclear Island to ensure that your safety functions are achieved during the design and construction phases.

Pay, benefits and culture…

Alongside a salary from £52,392, we offer a competitive benefits package, including a company pension scheme, a wide range of flexible benefits to suit your lifestyle, and the opportunity to earn bonus.

At EDF, everyone’s welcome. We strive to create an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone has a voice and where you feel confident being yourself. We’re committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application, making adjustments as you need.

We’ll value the difference you bring and offer opportunities for you to thrive and succeed.

What you’ll be doing…

  • Updating Hazard Veriftion Studies by applying relevant technical methodologies for internal and external building hazards.
  • Developing simplified design calculation hypotheses and define potential scenarios for each identified threat.
  • Identifying and assessing equipment at risk, including the impact on functional redundancies.
  • Managing technical aspects related to hazard protection requirements within building and system designs.
  • Providing technical expertise on safety functional requirements to support design changes and requests during the design and construction phases.
  • Participating in Edvance-wide discipline meetings focused on hazard-related topics.

Who you are…

Your background may include some of the following:

  • Degree-qualified Engineer, preferably with a specialisation in safety or equivalent experience.
  • Familiar with the implementation of safety requirements and hazard studies, ideally within a highly regulated industry.
  • Knowledgeable in Nuclear Safety Assessment Principles, with practical experience in their application.
  • Experience in systems engineering, layout design, and pipework.
  • Proficient in using PDMS and Navisworks software for engineering design and review.
  • Proficiency in French is an advantage.
  • Conscientious and enthusiastic, with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Capable of working under pressure and meeting deadlines effectively.
