Job Requirements/Description

Do you enjoy working outdoors and being part of a team? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for a Construction Operative to join our Civils Construction team.

Our team provides a vital in-house design and build service that helps to ensure we effectively construct and maintain our water and sewerage assets.

What you'll do

As a Construction Operative, you will be part of a team responsible for carrying out construction-related site activities, including excavations, pipe-laying, operating plant, general groundworks and concreting.

You will do this under the guidance of a Team Leader, as instructed by the site management team to ensure that all works are completed and compliant with company policies and procedures.

You will also attend and participate in team briefs, safety updates and workplace communications to ensure the works are carried out safely and to the best possible standard.

You will be working with a great team which works outdoors in all weather conditions and deals with different challenges every day, providing a vital service to our client.

What you'll need

Ideally, you will have the following construction site experience:

  • pipelaying of various sizes and materials
  • excavations of various depths including knowledge of temporary works such as sheets and frames/trench boxes
  • concrete works experience
  • manhole construction experience.

It would be beneficial for you to have undergone some of the following training:

  • first aid training
  • dumper training
  • confined spaces
  • abrasive wheels training
  • manual handling
  • cat and genny training.

Additionally, you will have a positive, can-do attitude and have knowledge of construction health and safety.

These roles are site-based and we have (often remote) sites all around our region so you will need to be willing to travel (up to 90mins) and hold a valid driving licence.

What you'll receive

  • Total pension contributions up to 20%.
  • Career progression and professional development opportunities.
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • The opportunity to buy up to ten days' holiday and sell up to five every year.
  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
  • A new electric car in exchange for part of your gross salary, subject to conditions.
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
  • Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
  • An interactive health and wellbeing platform.
  • Support from mental health first aiders.
  • A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone to work for us.
