The Waste Sortation Officer position at Bristol Airport involves several key responsibilities. Primarily, the role entails operating on the picking line, where waste bags from 1100-liter holding bins are removed and meticulously sorted into four distinct waste streams—glass, plastic bottles, coffee cups, and metal cans. Once sorted, the officer transfers the waste to the appropriate baler or 1100-liter bin. Daily tasks include reporting any contamination issues to the Waste Supervisor and ensuring the cleanliness and operational safety of the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) or sortation unit. This involves regular maintenance, such as PAT testing, with any issues promptly reported to the supervisor.

Furthermore, the role requires a comprehensive understanding of the cleaning processes, including the specific tasks and allocated timeframes. The officer is responsible for maintaining designated areas to a prescribed standard of cleanliness as per client requirements, following directives for daily, weekly, and periodic cleaning tasks. Additionally, familiarity with all cleaning equipment, materials, and approved chemicals used on-site is essential, necessitating attendance at relevant training sessions.

Health and safety compliance is paramount, encompassing adherence to regulations, policies, and protocols set by both the company and the client. This includes the careful handling of products and diligent maintenance of equipment, as well as the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). The officer must also adhere to site rules at all times, including guidelines on attire and the use of safety signage like Wet Floor Warning Signs.

Administratively, the role requires timely reporting of maintenance issues, as well as the use of Workplace Plus to log arrival and departure times. Moreover, the officer is expected to handle any job-related complaints and promptly escalate issues to the Waste Supervisor as necessary. Overall, the Waste Sortation Officer role demands meticulous attention to detail, strict adherence to safety protocols, and effective communication with supervisory staff to ensure operational efficiency and compliance.
