Role: Senior Structural Analysis Engineer

Location : Remote with travel to Bristol

Duration: 6 months (likely extension)

Rate: Negotiable

The role

As a Senior Structural Analysis Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You will create significant value by leveraging your skills and experience to lead yourself and others in the qualification of outstanding in-design, and in-service solutions.

Day to day, you'll perform the origination and checking of structural analysis calculations, finite element analysis, and reports in relation to the qualification of submarine and surface ship component resistance to; shock, vibration, fatigue, and pressure loading in accordance with the relevant design codes and customer-agreed analysis methodologies.

You will be deployed with the Mission Systems Analysis Modelling & Simulation service delivery team, reporting to the Structural Analysis, Modelling and Simulation Team Lead. As such this role shall provide an engaging variety of complex technical challenges with the potential to gain oversite and involvement with growing in-service and in-design programme portfolio.

Duties include:

  • Perform the origination and checking of analysis calculations, finite element analysis, and reports on time and within budget.
  • Support the definition of analysis work package scope and costing.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders by reporting low strength reserve factors and assist in the proposal of alternative design solutions.
  • Support the development of junior colleagues.



Essential experience of the Senior Structural Analysis Engineer:

  • Experience in origination and checking of structural analysis hand calculations, and familiarity with design codes e.g. PD 5500, MAP 01-470, BS 5950, BS EN 13001.
  • Experience in origination and checking of structural finite element modelling and analysis, and proficiency in the use of FEA software (ideally Ansys and/or LS-Dyna) to include static, non-linear (contact) and elastic analysis, and ideally also dynamic and/or elasto-plastic analysis.
  • Experience with the following software would also be desirable: Teamcenter,

Qualifications:

  • Degree qualified in a relevant technical discipline
  • A member of a professional institution with which you hold Chartered or Incorporated status


The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance level for this role.
