Job Requirements/Description

We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Water Resource Strategy Manager to join our Water Resources team, leading the strategic water resource planning team. You will receive a competitive salary of circa £90,000 plus an excellent benefits package.

In this role you be responsible for leading the water resource strategic planning team in creating the WRMP, Drought Management Plan and supporting the WINEP investigation delivery. You will be the guiding mind for our 50 year strategy and help to shape the investment cases for long term water resource options for the operating regions.

What you'll be doing:

  • Building and lead a high performing team with a clear vision, objectives, and accountabilities.
  • Leading and managing the Water Resources Strategy team, providing leadership direction, setting the people agenda and vision, maximising performance and facilitating a developmental environment.
  • Planning and managing resources including all operational and capital costs/budgets associated with delivery of the day to day running of the team and delivery of new initiatives.
  • Responsible for leading the water resource strategy team in creating and reviewing the WRMP, DMP, developing approach for WINEP investigation delivery, future options appraisals and abstraction strategy across Devon, Cornwall, Bristol, Bournemouth and Isles of Scilly regions, together with related price review interfaces. This includes working collaboratively with the wider business on development of future supply options. Designing and implementing fit for purpose processes that make it simpler for colleagues, better for the environment and provide greater value for customers.
  • Maintaining and developing key relationships with stakeholders including build relationship and credibility with the EA including leading the responses to regulator consultations.
  • Take accountability of the development of long term strategies and investment plans, whilst driving ‘in AMP’ strategies to seek step changes in operational performance.
  • Oversee SDBI Objectives and recommend adjustments to Supply Strategy to support delivery of Objectives.
  • Responsible for the delivery of the Water Resources Strategy portfolio to achieve performance commitments, business outcomes and regulatory needs.
  • You will be responsible for continuous review of the DMP and formal cyclical plan updates, leading the engagement with the wider business and participating in national drought groups.
  • You will lead the preparation of company annual reviews on delivery against the WRMP, with insight and input from across the business.
  • You will lead a team that will be the guiding mind for water resources strategy, closely working with price review teams and setting the water resource related targets.
  • Steering the direction of the regional water resource planning process and support engagement on water resource planning at a national scale.
  • You will lead the responses to regulator consultations on changes to UK legislation and regulator policy/ guidance for the regulation of water resources.

What we are looking for:

  • Reputable and credible leader in the field of water resource strategy, able to articulate a clear vision with excellent people leadership and influencing skills.
  • confident at engaging at all levels with key internal and external stakeholders and partners.
  • Proven leadership capabilities in strategic water resource planning and regulatory frameworks.
  • Proven track record of delivery, have personal resilience, be a self-starter, and a natural collaborator who actively engages with other senior managers across the business.
  • Scientific/ Environmental/ related Degree.
  • Extensive knowledge of water resources management and its components.
  • Technical knowledge of Water Resources and Environmental regulation.
  • The ability to prioritise work in accordance with ever changing demands, and manage multiple projects.
  • Able and willing to travel throughout the region and to national meetings as needed with regulators and industry bodies.
