Would you like to be involved in this vital transition? We are looking for Assistant Quantity Surveyors to work with our Quantity Surveyors (QS) and Lead Quantity Surveyors (LQS) in their role of assisting the project Managers with the delivery of Capital Projects on the Electricity Transmission Network.

You will assist in the validation of Actual Costs, with the review of Early Warning Notices, Notices of Compensation Events, Compensation Events & Project Risk Registers. You will be given elements of the contractor’s quotations to Cost Assure on behalf of the QS or LQS, and support estimating activities where required.

Our customers include everyone who uses electricity in England and Wales. Acting on behalf of these people, you’ll help ensure that we deliver our projects in the most commercially effective way.

What you'll be doing

  • Support tender activities where required, using benchmark data and eHub cost estimates
  • Undertake cost assurance on various elements of contractors quotations – challenge and request further substantiation as and when required in order to fully verify numbers
  • Assist QS and LQS with preparation for project review meetings – attend on their behalf when delegated
  • Assist the QS or LQS to ensure contract compliance, through effective contract management activities; support the Project Delivery teams in producing all necessary contract instructions and communications for the assigned project portfolio.
  • Actual cost verification
  • Audit of Subcontractors works on site against Valuations/ Payment Certificates
  • Invoice reconciliation
  • Cost Value Report Appraisals and Activity schedule appraisal
  • Validation of Contractor’s forecasting
  • Assist in contractual claims, and the Early Warning/ Compensation Event process.
  • Support the risk management process through the facilitation of risk workshops and updating the core risk management applications

What you'll need

  • Experience within the construction industry would be advantageous
  • Ability to analyse and evaluate compensation events and variations
  • Commercial acumen and supply chain management skills
  • Basic ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
  • Influencing, persuading, communicating, challenging and negotiation skills Technical or Specialist
  • Understanding of project management, scheduling principles & cost management
  • Must have Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills and the ability to use and develop spreadsheets, cost analysis and programme evaluation
