Job Requirements/Description

Hours: Full time - 37.5 hours per week (Monday - Friday, 07:30-16:00)

To assist in the provision of the aseptic preparation service under the supervision of Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists including:

Aseptic preparation of Parenteral Nutrition (PN) for paediatric and neonatal patients (including Bone Marrow Transplant patients), using pharmaceutical isolators.

Pre and in-process checking of PN ingredients and volumes upon successful completion of accredited training and validation.

Aseptic preparation of parenteral chemotherapy drugs and related treatments, using pharmaceutical isolators.

Receipt and storage of pharmaceutical raw materials used in the preparation of the PN and chemotherapy treatments, according to Good Manufacturing and Distribution Practice.

Assisting with the cleaning of the cleanrooms at the start of the day, a vital role that must be completed before other cleanroom activities can commence.

Job is suitable for school leavers as full training will be provided.

Main duties of the job

Aseptic preparation

  • Aseptic preparation of Parenteral Nutrition (PN) for paediatric & neonatal patients (inc Bone Marrow Transplant patients) in the Trust.
  • Performing pre- & in-process checks during the PN preparation process, upon successful completion of accredited training & validation.
  • Aseptic preparation of intravenous chemotherapy drugs & related treatments, upon successful completion of the in-house training & assessment.
  • Assembling work trays with items & equipment required for the aseptic preparation of all products in the unit.
  • Cleaning & maintaining pharmaceutical isolator/s on a sessional basis.
  • Performing regular checks on allocated isolator/s & recording checks prior to commencing work in that isolator.
  • Undertaking operator & process validations, as determined by Quality Assurance.

Cleaning of Cleanroom Areas

  • Cleaning of all cleanrooms & support areas to defined standards, following cleanroom procedures.
  • Ensuring all cleanroom areas are cleaned daily.
  • Ensuring cleanroom clothing is worn at all times as defined in the cleanroom procedures, whilst carrying out these duties.
  • Removing all pharmacy waste from all areas on a daily basis as per cleanroom procedures.
  • Reporting any irregularities to the senior or lead technicians/technical officers.
  • Checking cleaning materials on a daily basis & reporting any shortfalls in supply to senior or lead technicians/technical officers.
  • Recording all cleaning procedures undertaken in the clean rooms on a daily basis.
