Main duties of the job

Supported by the Operational Lead Nurse for Safeguarding Children to develop and promote a robust safeguarding culture across the Trust.

Ensuring that the Trust safeguarding arrangements are in line with best practice, legislation, and comply with regulatory and commissioning requirements.

The Senior Safeguarding Nurse will contribute to the safeguarding agenda through the provision of evidence based safeguarding practice, advice, support, supervision and training for all disciplines of staff across all trust sites.

Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria

  • Advanced knowledge of the legislation, statutory guidance and best practice for child safeguarding and child protection processes
  • Current experience of working with children/young people
  • Proven communication and influencing skills
  • Strong ability using a variety of Information technology systems, including Microsoft word, Excel spreadsheets, TEAMS and other systems to support team activity and data collection and analysis
  • Skilled with using creative approaches for providing staff supervision and support
  • Experience of developing other staff/junior staff and supporting their practice from
  • Experience of representing the child’s voice in decision making processes
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team and with multiagency approaches
  • Excellent knowledge of current local and national safeguarding issues for children

Desirable criteria

  • Proven ability with negotiating and collaborating on complex issues

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Ability to communicate well and build good working relationships with multi-disciplinary colleagues.
  • Ability to analyse assessment information and identify risks of harm and abuse holding the best interests of the child at the center of all decisions.
  • Ability to translate research evidence and policy into training and development for a range of staff.
  • Ability to work for and as part of a team. Clear understanding of autonomy, boundaries and escalation in relation to safeguarding roles
  • Ability to manage an unpredictable working day and reprioritise activity at short notice.
  • Ability to support staff through safeguarding supervision and structured reflective practice to improve the outcomes for children.

Desirable criteria

  • Skilled in using Microsoft office applications to support recording and analysis of service information (i.e Excel) and development of training materials (i.e Powerpoint).

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria

  • Registered Children’s Nurse or Registered Practitioner
  • Evidence of professional and managerial development
  • Post graduate qualification to Degree level or working towards or equivalent experience in relevant area of practice

  • Supervision qualification.
