About The Apprenticeship

Our Engineering Technician Apprenticeship is a 4-year program, which can lead onto one of the following 4 areas of technical expertise:

Manufacturing/Engineering Support Technician - this role provides technical support & expertise for all areas of the Manufacturing & Engineering functions.

Metrology Engineer - this role involves checking aircraft parts to ensure they are delivered correctly & to the highest standard.

Quality Engineer - This role provides experience in all aspects of aircraft design & manufacture.

Tooling Engineer - Tool Engineers use their skills to design, modify or repair tooling that will be used to produce aircraft parts.

Apprentice Programme Structure

Year 1: The majority of your first year will be working offsite at college. Towards the end of the first year, you will undertake a return to site induction followed by onsite GKN training

Years 2 & 3: You will undertake Business Familiarisation rotation placements. During your placements, you will document work that you complete & review this regularly with your GKN training advisor

Year 4: You will complete your Level 4 Technical Certificate & continue on-the-job training in your final department. This is where you will complete your Qualification as well as your End Point Assessment

• To successfully complete all activities documented in the Apprentice Training Agreement
