Innovation Manager – Legal Technology Team

An opportunity has arisen for an Innovation Manager to join a forward-thinking team focused on developing and implementing innovative ideas and solutions in legal services. The role involves identifying innovation opportunities, leading and managing projects, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, and fostering a culture of innovation within the firm. The firm is one of the top 5 legal tech consultancies in the UK and works with a wide range of FTSE 100 financial services and commercial organisations as well as large central governmental departments. The firm advises legal departments within these organisations on how best to use legal technology to drive forward improvements to efficiency and costs.


Role Overview

The Innovation Manager will take a leadership role in challenging convention and preparing the firm and its clients for the future. The successful candidate will work directly with clients to understand their needs and deliver tailored products and services. They will also collaborate with legal teams to enhance client experience, improve service delivery, and generate business efficiencies.

Using existing legal strategy and technology solutions, the Innovation Manager will help ideate new solutions and integrate them with legal services.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborative Work: Collaborate with team members to build an internal and external innovation network and ecosystem.
  • Identify & Evaluate Opportunities: Facilitate and evaluate new ideas for innovation, prioritizing them for implementation.
  • Requirements Gathering: Work with internal teams to gather requirements and develop a clear roadmap for delivering solutions.
  • Project Management: Manage initiatives involving multiple teams, ensuring resources, budgets, and timelines are well-coordinated.
  • Relationship Building: Develop strong relationships with stakeholders and clients, transforming legal operations and exploring continuous improvement.
  • Pre-Implementation ROI: Identify ROI and business cases for innovation, defining key success metrics.
  • Post-Implementation ROI: Review implemented solutions to ensure value delivery and make improvements where needed.
  • Workshop Delivery: Lead workshops using design thinking to identify pain points and create practical, innovative legal solutions.
  • Problem Communication: Help stakeholders articulate their needs and develop shared visions for new solutions.
  • Solution Design: Support the design and implementation of new solutions using agile and user-centric methodologies.
  • Reporting & Promotion: Create detailed recommendation reports, promote team achievements, and generate interest in innovation solutions.
  • Consulting Practice Growth: Support the expansion of the legal transformation consulting practice and identify new client opportunities.
  • Horizon Scanning: Stay updated on trends and developments in innovation and technology within the legal sector and beyond.


Skills and Experience Required:

  • At least 3 years of experience in creativity, innovation, and technology within the legal sector or a similar professional services environment.
  • Strong understanding of the legal market and the opportunities for innovation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proactive and creative mindset, with the ability to generate and implement new ideas.
  • Collaborative team player with experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Agile and adaptable working style.


Desirable Skills:

  • Legal experience that enhances the ability to communicate effectively on complex issues.
  • Experience with relevant legal technologies, including no-code tools, document automation, and legal AI.
  • Consultancy experience in legal transformation projects.
  • Certification in innovation, technology, or project management is advantageous.
