Our Engineering Team's role is to keep things working, increasing efficiency and ensuring the smooth operation of the Airport. We’re seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join our Engineering team here on a permanent basis.

Reporting to our Engineering Project Manager, they’ll assist and support in delivering Engineering asset replacement, enhancement, and development capital projects across the Airport infrastructure. This role will include the provision of technical and organisation input into the current and future projects as Bristol Airport whilst ensuring safety, compliance and best practices are always maintained.

About the role

The Assistant Project Manager will schedule, control, plan and carry out multidiscipline capital projects on Electrical and Mechanical services, including, but not limited to; HV, LV distribution systems, fire alarm systems, baggage handling systems, Building Management Systems, heating, construction, civils, ventilation and air conditioning systems and they’ll do this whilst ensuring the highest standards of health, safety and well-being are maintained throughout every project lifecycle.

Collaborating with our Engineering Project Manager, they’ll develop business cases and prepare supporting paperwork to gain the financial approval for all project works whilst ensuring that whole life costs are reviewed and evaluated to support the business Asset Management model. Assessing and documenting the impact of projects, the Assistant Project Manager will build effective working relationships with all stakeholders to liaise with them in ensuring minimal disruption to airport operations.

In addition, the role will also include:

  • Closely managing all project-related finances, ensuring compliance with procurement policy, disseminating costs/budgets to internal departments and tracking costs to budget.
  • Managing and monitoring contractor activities to drive continuous improvement.
  • Reviewing and inspecting work carried out by subcontractors and actively addressing all compliance, equality issues and overseeing remedial works.
  • Reviewing Risk Assessments and Method Statements developed by contractors for project work activities and carrying out task monitoring to ensure compliance.
  • Maintaining detailed records of project activities and ensure the Engineering team and PMO are fully aware of work progress and any additional equipment being installed.

About You

We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Project Manager who ideally will have an HNC/ONC, or other recognised qualification in either Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering. They’ll be an excellent communicator, with the ability and confidence to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

They’ll be committed to driving continuous improvement and capable of motivating and influencing others to drive change and operational efficiencies. Experience in reviewing Risk Assessments and Method Statements is essential as is strong literacy, numeracy and ICT skills whilst being fully competent in all MS Office applications including Microsoft Projects.

They’ll have excellent planning and time management skills with the ability to juggle multiple challenges and prioritise appropriately whilst having an adaptable approach in covering a 24/7 operational environment.
