The Role

We are now recruiting an Assistive Technology Support Officer to remove technological barriers to inclusion within the council. They will provide direct technical support, as well as knowledge sharing, training, and advice,

We want to hear from people with skills in:

  • Setting up an assistive technology function within an IT Service Desk.
  • An understanding of potential security/data risks with assistive services, and a knowledge of suitable alternatives.
  • Delivering training, support, and documentation for IT Service Support staff.
  • Working to support a wide range of disabilities.
  • Keeping up to date records on assistive technology hardware and software, licenses, and End of Life.
  • Writing or contributing to business cases for assistive technology rollouts/programmes of work.
  • Understanding the social model of disability, and the council’s duties under the Equality Act 2010.

You should be:

  • Naturally curious – you keep on top of your own learning and development and are up to date with the latest techniques and trends in your field.  
  • An advocate for user-centred practices, ideally embedded within agile delivery.  
  • Able to explain complex technical concepts in plain language.
  • Committed to improving citizen’s’ lives and opportunities.
  • Demonstrating respect and fairness.
  • Taking ownership.
  • Working together across the council.
