We are excited to offer a rare opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated clinical pharmacist to join the Woman's and Children's Pharmacy at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. 

The successful candidate will be a member of our clinical pharmacy team providing Pharmaceutical care to patients under the PICU service and be part of the PICU multidisciplinary team, based within Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. The post holder will also have leadership responsibility to the clinical pharmacy services offered to our paediatric surgery department. 

The Woman and Children's Pharmacy team spans across two adjacently located hospital sites providing care to woman, children and neonates. You will be working as part of a well supported team of clinical pharmacists driving the development of clinical and operational services to your patient group. 

Main duties of the job

  • Providing a clinical pharmacy service to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. 
  • Providing leadership and training to clinical pharmacists working within paediatric surgery wards and working closely with the surgical team on improvement, training and governance. 
  • Working alongside the multidisciplinary team including nursing staff, doctors and other healthcare professionals to provide excellent inpatient care.
  • Supporting and training junior staff as they develop their knowledge and skills.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria

  • Masters degree (or equivalent) in Pharmacy.
  • Membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council for Pharmacists.
  • Post Graduate Clinical Diploma in Pharmacy or equivalent.

Desirable criteria

  • Member of the Neonatal and Paediatric Pharmacists Group (NPPG).
  • Qualified Independent Prescriber.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria

  • Extensive post registration Clinical Pharmacy Experience.
  • Working Knowledge of UK Hospital Pharmacy.
  • Evidence of Sound Clinical Pharmacy Methods.
  • Experience of Staff Management/supervision.
  • Experience of Teaching/presenting.
  • Experience in clinical management of paediatric patients.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
  • Experience of Audit.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience managing paediatric surgical and Intensive Care Patients.
  • Experience undertaking Quality Improvement Projects.
  • Experience of Working as an Independant Prescriber.
  • Experience working with electronic prescribing/critical care electronic monitoring systems.

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Evidence of commitment to continued improvement of patient experience.
  • Ability to use judgement to challenge and influence prescribing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills & negotiation skills.
  • Excellent prioritisation and time management skills.
  • Ability to mentor other members of staff.

Desirable criteria

  • Ability to use and adapt to the use of IT systems within the healthcare setting particularly electronic prescribing and medicines administration (EPMA).
  • Evidence of an interest in medicine management agenda.
