We are currently looking to recruit a part-time Receptionist (22.5 Hours p/w – Monday, Tuesday and Friday ) to our front Reception Desk at University Hospitals Bristol & Weston. The role of the Receptionist is vital to the Weston General hospital site as you will play an important role in the smooth running of what is a very important and busy area of the hospital. You will be required to be the first point of contact at the hospital so a friendly and welcoming demeanour and calmness under pressure are essential for this role.
Responsibilities will include acting as the patient’s first point of contact with the hospital, greeting and signposting patients and relatives, liaising with colleagues to facilitate a smooth and timely stay with the hospital, sending out patient information, sorting and distributing post, To direct patients/visitors to other departments and wards, where appropriate organising assistance from porters if a wheelchair is required.
Main duties of the job
Communication:
- To liaise with patients, clinical staff, GPs and Trust support staff in person, via telephone and email as and when necessary
- To show a caring and professional approach towards patients and visitors when carrying out all duties
- Escalate patient queries, capacity problems and general issues to the role’s line manager or relevant clinical staff as appropriate.
Patient Care:
- To welcome and assist patients, relatives and visitors on arrival to the hospital and inform appropriate staff. This may require acting with resilience to deal with sometimes distressed patients and relatives in a professional and empathetic manner
Organising and Planning:
- Ensure that all clinical results and other clinical information are accurately filed in the patient notes and that patient notes are up to date and maintained according to the relevant Trust standards
- Ensure patient records are appropriately received and transferred and trace all notes when required.
- To carry out associated clerical duties, for example maintaining accurate filing systems, photocopying, receiving and distributing post, arranging patient transport, and scanning patient notes if required.
- To undertake the role’s duties in the case of a major incident in your department.
- Attend appropriate meetings as required by the role’s line manager.

Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- Educated to GCSE, grade C or above (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous receptionist experience in a healthcare or public setting
- Clerical/administration experience including filing and/or reception
