Job Requirements/Description

The role

This role is a key member of the Bristol Centre for Supercomputing (BriCS) which operates the Isambard-AI, Isambard 3 and High-Performance Computing programmes. We are looking for a Communications Manager to join the team, to develop and deliver the Centre’s comms and marketing activity. The Communications Manager will work closely with the BriCS team, working with and further developing a comms strategy for the benefit of BriCS, and the wider University.

This role is about making an impact. You'll have the opportunity to communicate the successes and highlights of Isambard-AI, Isambard 3 and future projects that the BriCS team deliver. You’ll be shaping and delivering our comms plan, planning for and attending events to promote BriCS and Isambard, and working alongside our marketing and media teams to translate activity within BriCS to the wider world, driving our message forward with skill and determination.

You’ll be a confident copywriter who can articulate messages so that they resonate with different audiences. A background or interest in science communication would be a bonus, you don’t need to be an expert in High Performance Computing or AI. But an interest in tech, university level research and general intellectual curiosity will all be advantageous in this role. You’ll also have a track record of measuring the impact of your work, be it with qualitative or quantitative analysis. Be that via paid or earned media, analytics, or feedback from the team. You’ll own your output and support a culture of review, insight and improvements when planning your next steps.

You’ll be part of our Strategic Communications and Marketing and embedded with the BriCS team, working directly with the academic and professional team responsible for this hugely exciting project.

We ideally aim to fill this role on a full-time basis but are open to considering part-time applications at 0.8 FTE (28 hours per week).

This is an open ended position with fixed funding until March 2029.

What will you be doing?

The postholder will sit within the Strategic Comms and Marketing team but act as a key point of contact and have day to day interaction with the BriCS team. You will work closely with the Centre Director and Centre Manager, while also being fully integrated into the Strategic Comms and Marketing division of the University.

You will be responsible for:

  • Working with, and further iterating, the existing comms plan for BriCS.
  • Developing and delivering comms and marketing activity in line with strategic goals of BriCS and the wider University.
  • Planning, developing and commissioning material for events.
  • Attending events, including conferences, internal and external meetings, to promote and communicate the BriCS brand
  • Maximising opportunities in marketing and comms for BriCS, by liaising with other teams across the institution.
  • Working with the media team to develop relationships with specialist publications.
  • Translating the activity within BriCS to the wider world.
  • Owning and maintaining key documents, such as a corporate slide deck, briefing documents, Q&A’s.
  • Writing copy for, and maintaining, the website.

You should apply if

  • You should have the passion and drive to communicate the BriCS brand and the Isambard national resource enthusiastically and successfully.
  • You will also have strong copywriting and science communication skills.
  • Have a good understanding of brand, and the ability to translate BriCS and Isambard activity to the wider world.
  • You will be willing and able to travel to events, and have confidence and enthusiasm when talking to stakeholders and other interested parties.
  • You will gain a good understanding of the BriCS and Isambard audiences, and be able to translate and pitch messages to those audiences.
  • You will be a comms all-rounder, able to collaborate with the Centre’s leadership team and offer strategic advice, but also enthusiastic about hands on delivery.
  • You’ll bring your energy to and be motivated by a fast paced and dynamic project and be able to prioritise a busy workload.
